Day 8: Caption Meeting

From 2012 365 Project

Pasadena, TX.

I'm still visual caption head for Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps and this is what I got to spend my early Sunday afternoon doing...video chatting with these guys.

Amanda: Day 196. First Uniform Run!

From Amanda's 365 Project

This was the horn line on their way to the practice field for the first full uniform run. Tomorrow is our first public performance! Yay!

I just can't get enough of the West Texas sunsets.

Amanda: Day 195. Shadow Box.

From Amanda's 365 Project

This is the shadow of the awesome tower I mentioned earlier and the four captions standing up top.

This is the corps attempting to do movement with Ali, the guard caption head.

Amanda: Day 194. Cleaning.

From Amanda's 365 Project

Staff was cleaning hats to get ready for our first public performance. However, Robert took advantage of the cleaning product to see if it would work on one of the many spills he had on his shirt.

Amanda: Day 193. Laughs from the Food Staff.

From Amanda's 365 Project

It's no secret we're from the Valley so the food staff decided to have a few laughs. Either that or they got tired writing the same old thing on the board.

This is Roger and Mike on viz staff. They worked so hard they need a siesta. :D

Amanda: Day 192. View from the Box.

From Amanda's 365 Project

We finally made it back to the grass field! It has an amazing three story tower that I LOOOOOVE! Here's the pit from the third story view.

Amanda: Day 190. Lake Genesis.

From Amanda's 365 Project

Remember all the rain I've mentioned? When we arrived on July 1st, this was merely pasture. Now it has grown to a mosquito haven we lovingly refer to as Lake Genesis. But the plus side is that it provides a lovely backdrop for sunsets.

Amanda: Day 188. Every. Day.

From Amanda's 365 Project

This is daily life (with a little musician humor thrown in).

From Amanda's 365 Project

This is not every day. This is staff sitting down to enjoy Taco Bell. We wanted Taco Bell so badly we drove through the drive thru line FIVE times to get everyone's order in because the inside was closed. Definitely a first for me.

Amanda: Day 187. Plan B.

From Amanda's 365 Project

After six days of rain, we can no longer practice on the grass practice field. We also could not NOT practice. Instead we decided to "soap" a concrete parking lot so rehearsal could continue. My tower is now a ridiculously huge ladder that I risk my life on every time I climb up on it. The things I do in the name of teaching. :D

Amanda: Day 186. Different Camera.

On the 3rd, I dropped my new camera and it won't turn on. So I am alternating between my phone and other people's camera. Somewhere along the way, my pictures have gotten lost. But never fear, I do intend to find them!

Amanda: Day 185. Short but Sweet.

From Amanda's 365 Project

This is the stadium rehearsal we were able to have at Frenship High School. It was short but sweet for many reasons. A) It was a short rehearsal day because it was July 4th. B) As you can see in the clouds, there was rain coming in (again). C) This is the only rehearsal we were able to have in the stadium because the coaches are extremely protective of their turf. (No pun intended.)

Amanda: Day 184. Rainy 3rd.

From Amanda's 365 Project

It's the third of July. There's a Fourth of July parade. It's still raining. Is everything always this crazy in Lubbock?

Amanda: Day 183. Rain = Sad face.

From Amanda's 365 Project

This is Ali. She is the Guard Caption Head. Ali is sad because it has rained every day in Lubbock since we've been here. Me too Ali, I agree.

Amanda: Day 182. First Day.

From Amanda's 365 Project

I bought a little black chalkboard speech bubble to help assist in variety for tour. I thought yall wouldn't want to see a practice field everyday. The two guys in the foreground are Bruce, the pit tech and Rick, the mello tech. Forrest, our rack player is holding the sign. If this is any indication of how the summer is going to go...it's gonna be crazy. (I had some problems with the transfer of some of my pictures. Sorry it's crazy. If anyone knows some editing software I could fix it with, let me know!)

Amanda: Day 181. And We're Off!

From Amanda's 365 Project

Hurricane Alex has slightly changed plans for departing for Genesis DBC. Instead of leaving July 5th, we're now leaving today! I was picked up in San Antonio around 9:00pm. This is Tenor, he'll be riding with me (and my friend/corps director Chris) in a Ryder truck to Lubbock tonight. We should arrive around 4:00am tomorrow.
