Day 8: Caption Meeting

From 2012 365 Project

I'm still visual caption head for Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps and this is what I got to spend my early Sunday afternoon doing...video chatting with these guys.

Day 7: Fire!

From 2012 365 Project

Webster, TX.

We went to a hibachi grill after indoor rehearsal tonight. My favorite part is when they light the onions on fire and then make the choo-choo noise with the remaining smoke.

Day 6: The Good Things in Life.

From 2012 365 Project

Friday night. Indian food. Wine and coffee. A new dessert. Best friend. What more could a girl ask for?

Day 5: Snow = Warmth.

From 2012 365 Project

These flannel sheets are possibly the best purchase I have ever made. They make it especially hard to get out of the bed in the morning.

Day 4: Sausage, Cheese and Crackers.

From 2012 365 Project

Bryan, TX.

A while ago, I had the opportunity to take some photos out at Slovacek Sausage in Snook. They gave us a HUGE box of sausage that I unfortunately have not had the opportunity to eat yet. Today, I FINALLY got to try it. Btw, homemade pimento cheese and crackers makes a great accompaniment to summer sausage!

Day 3: Steak and Potatoes, two ways.

From 2012 365 Project
Bryan, TX.

I'm currently spending a lot of time with a fellow who enjoys spending time with me as well (we're dating, but it still seems weird for me to say that simply because I haven't ever dated anyone really). For Christmas, I gave him a cookbook and he mentioned that he was making steak for dinner tonight, so naturally, I invited myself over. :) But being the good guest that I am, I also brought salad, pototoes, bread and wine. This wine just spoke to me at the store, I mean, after all we were having steak and potatoes, so how could I pass up a wine that was labeled the same?! Turns out, it was pretty dang good! It actually has gotten me back on a red wine kick. Go try it out for yourself!

Day 2: Floor Train.

From 2012 365 Project
Pasadena, TX.

This is our floor for indoor drumline. It is ridiculously heavy so all the kids must pitch in to help. However, it never ceases to amaze me how the tallest kid always ends up next to the shortest kid making this operation quite comical.

Day 1: I'm Back!

So I kind of abandoned this project last year, kind of maybe fell out of love with "having" to do photography, then traveled a lot, re-discovered myself, quit my job, started a new job and relocated to Bryan/College Station. As I was looking back at my pictures, I realize that I am capable to taking really good pictures! So it's 2012 and I'm back! I don't know what I want my end result of this project to be. Part of me wants to only limit myself to my point and shoot camera and part of me wants to get reacquainted with my DSLR. So I don't really know how this is going to turn out, but I'm going to continue to find the beauty in every day life. Hope you enjoy the ride! (Oh, and this year, it'll be just me posting. Sorry for those of you who have done it in the past and I didn't invite. I still love you all!)

So here we go: First Picture shortly after midnight. I went out with the Pasadena Memorial crew (Mark, Wes and Jonathan) and our indoor show this year is Blue, so in honor of that we took blue sno-cone shots. Happy New Year!!! Or rather, HAPPY BLUE YEAR!

First Theme of the Year!

I know I've been really behind on all posting this year. In order to keep this fresh and active, I think we'll have a vote for the next upcoming theme. I'll provide three options, the one with the most votes is the offical theme for the following week, Sunday through Saturday. Does that sound like a deal? Here's our first three options:

Love
Body Parts
Tired

My goal is to start having a theme every other week. You don't have to take a picture for theme every day, only if you want to do so. But I would like you to take a least one picture for the theme that week. Vote in the comments and the theme will be picked by Friday. (And you don't have to post pictures to vote, if you're a lurker, post what you'd like to see!)

Amanda: Day 36. Show Time.

From 2011 365 Project

First Indoor show of the season! Here is my lovely cymbal line running through a part of the show with all their snazy effects.

Amanda: Day 35. Is It Snow? Is It Ice?

From 2011 365 Project
Pasadena, TX.

This was the extent of the snowpacolypse. I couldn't tell whether it was ice or snow, but whatever it was, there wasn't a whole lot of it. Ice did hit Houston hard. Almost all highways were shutdown until at least noon today. Cars were stuck on overpasses where they lost traction because of the ice. It was craaaazzzy. Me? I stayed inside and watched the crazy people on the news.

Amanda: Day 34. Cold Weather Gear.

From 2011 365 Project

The great snowpacolypse is supposed to be upon us. Everything has been closed down for tomorrow across Texas. Schools, works, doctor's appointments. It's crazy. This is the jacket I bust out when the weather takes a turn for the worse. It's a down jacket tht always has a scarf on it and earmuffs in one pocket with gloves in the other. It's fully stocked and ready to wear. Bring it on cold weather.

Amanda: Day 33. Tea Time.

From 2011 365 Project

I've become slightly addicted to chai tea. Sometimes I just get a craving for it. However, I didn't have any of my standard chai tea with me so I caved in and bought the house brand at HEB. DON'T DO IT. It's not the real deal. It will leave you seriously unsatisfied and make you feel like you need to go out in below freezing weather and buy a different brand of chai.

Amanda: Day 32. Through the Windshield.

From 2011 365 Project
Harlingen, TX.

Okay, I'm going to try and cut down on the sunset pictures. But sometimes, I just can't resist. I mean, there's no way you can look at this sky and these colors and not just feel good inside.

Amanda: Day 31. Strength.

From 2011 365 Project
Harlingen, TX.

I joined a gym today. Now I have not one, but two gym memberships. This is gym is in the neighborhood where we live in Harlingen. I figured if the gym is less than give minutes away, there's NO EXCUSE for me to be lazy not to go, right? Me and these shoes...we're gonna get motivated.

Amanda: Day 30. Snares.

From 2011 365 Project
San Benito, TX.

Before Show and Tell on Sunday afternoon. I feel like I need to disclose that I don't favor the percussion, they're just more accessible to shoot during rehearsals.

Amanda: Day 29. Listening.

From 2011 365 Project
San Benito, TX.

This weekend is Genesis Camp in San Benito. This is our percussion section leader David with Percussion Caption Head Dillon in the background. (And good job to David for wearing ear plugs! I wish I had done the same when I was younger so I could listen nowadays.)

Amanda: Day 27. A Work of Art.

From 2011 365 Project
Harlingen, TX.

I ate at a little restaurant in Harlingen for lunch today. All of the wall sections were seperate vignettes. During mid-meal, the artist came out to work on a new section. It was pretty neat to watch him work in action.

Amanda: Day 24. Little Man. Big Job.

From 2011 365 Project

This is one of our tenor player's little brother. He decided to help us move equipment. Why he picked something bigger than him, I'll never know.

Amanda: Day 23. Bad Idea.

From 2011 365 Project
Pasadena, TX.

This is our indoor floor rolled up nice and neat. Usually the freshman someone who volunteers rolls across the floor to get the air out. I'm not sure this is really neccesary but it has become a tradition. Today, they tried a new tradition. Using the floor like a slip and slide.

From 2011 365 Project

It wasn't so successful.

Amanda: Day 22. In a Box.

From 2011 365 Project

We were painting the floor tonight for indoor and this little guy painted himself into a box...exactly like they weren't supposed to do.

From 2011 365 Project

This is the face that says "Please don't yell at me. I'm too cute. And this is funny...come on, you know it is." And guess what? It worked.

Amanda: Day 21. Downtown Htown.

From 2011 365 Project

I'm getting better!

Amanda: Day 20. Good Fortune.

From 2011 365 Project

I know it's super cheesy, but sometimes a fortune can make you ponder things.

Amanda: Day 19. Winter Sunset.

From 2011 365 Project
Bryan, TX.

I just can't resist a good sunset.

Amanda: Day 18. Sprinkles.

From 2011 365 Project

My mom and I went to see Spamalot tonight. Afterwards, we went for a post-theatre treat at Cold Stone Creamery. I can't resist sprinkle cones!

rashidah - day 13

Tron. 3D

rashidah - day 12

Ya'll are probably going to have a great idea of what my room looks like before the end of the year comes around.

The drawing by the window was given to me Christmas 2008. Apparently my old roommate painted it on one couch while I was asleep on the other one. And the black and white photo is my new 2011 calendar for this year.

Oh, and in that trunk, under the dvd player, under the tv, under my timbuk2 bag are all my old candy grams from BHS. Not a clue where my high school diploma is though.

rashidah - day 11

My friend Leila came home from working in Honduras for the last 6 months to visit for a week before she had to get back. These are some of the yummy plantains she made. This was before she almost started a grease fire, but we won't get into that.

rashidah - day 10

I met these two gentleman while watching the Oregon Ducks play that other team... auburn I think at a bar on campus. After the game was over, I asked the guy in the white hat if I could take his picture. To be fair, he was smiling and then apparently decided right when I pressed the button that he shouldn't because his mouth was full of hot tamales (the candy) and he would look like a chipmunk. His friend asked why I was taking a photo of white hat guy.

I explained and he said that his friend was a terrible picture subject and I needed to take another, of him. This is what he gave me.

He may or may not have been a little intoxicated at the time.

rashidah - day 9

Day 8 is on a friend's camera. I'll have to wait until she finally uploads it and sends it to me to share with ya'll.

On to day 9.

This little guy is the creation of one of my housemates. I found him on the kitchen table waiting for his paint coat to dry. Tyler said she made it out of some substance that allows you to mold it until you bake it, and then it hardens.

rashidah - day 7

This is at Samara's (on left of screen) birthday party. It was pretty brilliant. I learned a new game, fishbowl, that I will now try to get my friends to play incessantly until they are no longer my friends and I have to ask strangers to play it with me. I'll probably be thrown in jail for being weird, though.

rashidah - day 6

Sorry ladies and gents, I'm a little behind.

This is my awesome friend, Laura. This is how we spend our time hanging out in the mall for no real reason. Later we stared at rocks for what seemed like an hour. They were pretty rocks. Anywho, my birthday is on Friday the 13th this year and I'm throwing around the idea of having a masquerade party for it. Hence the time spent in the wicked cool mask shop.

Amanda: Day 17. Warmth.

From 2011 365 Project
Pasadena, TX.

Hot chocolate with extra marshmallows? Don't mind if I do!

Amanda: Day 16. Throwback.

From 2011 365 Project
League City, TX.

I was in a show home today and being nosy, I looked in one of the closets. Lo and behold, this game was in there! Whoever would keep Pretty Pretty Princess in the closet is insane.

Amanda: Day 15. Busy Hands.

From 2011 365 Project
Pasadena, TX.

There's a funny thing percussionist do whenever presented with free time, a percussion instrument and mallets. They have an instinctive urge to pick them up and play. No percussionist can overcome it. The power is too great.

Amanda: Day 14. Writing Drill.

From 2011 365 Project
Pasadena, TX.

As some of you may know, I teach indoor drumline in the spring. Most of the time I love it, but writing drill is my least favorite part.

Amanda: Day 13. City Lights.

From 2011 365 Project
Houston, TX.

"Deep city lights, girl could get lost tonight..."
This song gets stuck in my head each time I travel through a big town.

From 2011 365 Project

Here's a different perspective of the same view above. Just in case you were wondering.
