Day 297~"Wind Up Car"

Cliff and I were driving down I35 this morning and saw this cute little smart car with a spinning wind-up device on the back. I thought it was GREAT!

Day 296~"Ocean Sunrise"

I watched the sun as it came up over the horizon this morning and this is just one of those shots.

Amanda: Day 278. Night Time Trucking.

From Amanda's 365 Project

Traveling I-10, I was looking for new inspiration but I couldn't think because the big trucks kept flying by. Then it hit me, the lights on eighteen wheelers are different from standard cars. What you see on the left is an 18-wheeler traveling at 65mph down I-10.

Amanda: Day 277. Hazy Sunset.

From Amanda's 365 Project

Okay, so it's really not haze, it's blurry. I can never remember to pull my camera out BEFORE I get to the Intercoastal Bridge at High Island. But the sunsets are amazing down here.

Amanda: Day 276. Birthday Feast.

From Amanda's 365 Project

My mom's birthday was on the 29th but we celebrated today in a big way. We had a seafood feast that gave Red Lobster a run for it's money (although they do have me beat on plating). We had broiled shrimp, boiled shrimp, crab legs, lobster tail and lemon scented zuchinni. It was soooooooo delicious! Happy Late Birthday Mom!

Amanda: Day 275. Fall Festival/Barn Dance.

My Aunt Nita throws a killer Fall Festival and I was totally on my game for taking pictures today. Hope you don't mind while I indulge.

Amanda: Day 274. BHS Band Alumni Night.

From Amanda's 365 Project

Clockwise, starting from top left:
BHS Drumline Alumni and family,
Mr. Towell wearing the Homecoming King's crown, head director
THE THREE HERMANAS REUNITE!
Mr. Taylor, Percussion director, doing who knows what

It was an awesome night! I felt old after someone (who is now in college) said "Yeah, I remember you. You taught me when I was in the 7th grade." Awesome. But I played better than all the current basses rocked out playing the bass drum. It was so nice to be at a football game and not worry about playing right (the first phase of my life) or making sure someone else was playing things right (the second phase of my life). I might look into doing this more often.

Amanda: Day 273. Old School.

From Amanda's 365 Project

I realize I haven't taken a GPOYW recently. And I know it's Thursday, but I decided to do one anyways. Here's a little secret. I got my hair permed and I love it. And I'm bringing back the hair scarf. Just in case you didn't know.

Amanda: Day 272. Carlee.

From Amanda's 365 Project

This is one of Jenna's beautiful kids. I had the wonderful opportunity to share the morning with her. We had breakfast, watched Ratatouille (okay, I snuck in with Carlee and Kennedy) and lent a hand with whatever I could while we were all getting ready. It was truly a joy.

Amanda: Day 271. Monarch.

I love it when I can catch the still moments in life.

Amanda: Day 270. Broken Dollar.

From Amanda's 365 Project

Last week, I was leaving my mom's house and something caught my eye. I blew it off as a crepe myrtle flower. I kept walking and something else caught my eye. I looked closer and it was money. Shredded money. Someone had mowed a dollar bill. I spent about fifteen minutes trying to find all the pieces and took it inside and tried to piece it together. It was like a puzzle! I then discovered there was not just one, but two dollars, so outside I went to find the rest of the pieces. It's taken me about three days to find this much of the dollars, I'm still looking. And yes, I do plan to take it to the bank and exchange it for whole dollars when I'm done.

Amanda: Day 269. Chocolate Cobbler.

From Amanda's 365 Project

I've had this recipe bookmarked for over a year now. Tonight I just went for it and made it. The prep is so different: you make a cake-like batter, sprinkle a dry cocoa powder and brown sugar mixture on top, then pour hot water on top. The big rule is DON'T MIX! Somehow, during the magical baking process, it creates a chocolate cake and then a chocolate sauce. Served with frozen whip cream...delicious!

Amanda: Day 268. Dot/No Dot.

From Amanda's 365 Project

I've had a problem on my D80 for a while now. I got dust on my CCD sensor. Since there is no professional camera shop in the BCS area, I've been debating: clean it myself and risk ruining the camera or take it to a shop, spend $70 and be without it for a week. So today, I took the plunge and decided to clean it myself. The first picture was after a few attempts but you can still see a small black dot off center(before it was solid back dead center, horrible!). The second picture was after about an hour of cleaning. I am VERY happy with the results!

I found this truck on the street of Navasota. I mean, how could I NOT take a picture of it?

Amanda: Day 265. Magic.

From Amanda's 365 Project

I've been at my mom's house a few days and it's like one big scrapbook. I keep coming across things from the past and this was one of them. It was my magic drumstick from one of my early summers teaching drum corps. As you see, it's hovering in the air. (or being held up by a fishing line, whatever.) I used to throw it in the general direction of kids and the string helped bring it back without me having to fetch it. I won't divuldge how I used it but let's just say no harm was brought from it, but I might have used it as a threat. :D

Amanda: Day 263. Mirror of Memories.

From Amanda's 365 Project

This is my bathroom mirror at my mom's house. I lived there during high school and college, so I got in the habit of taking my off my name tags for various events and posting them on my mirror. And then, I got in the habit of the putting up ticket stubs, Christmas cards, thank you notes, any random thing I wanted to keep.

Amanda: Day 262. Kaffee Cake.

From Amanda's 365 Project

Yum-o. My mom made her famous German coffee cake this morning. I always look forward to it when I come home.

Amanda: Day 260. Aggieland Game Day.

From Amanda's 365 Project

It's gamedaygameweekend here in Aggieland. Hence all the cars on University Drive. This is the view of the water tower from Mad Hatters. Anne and I had lunch today and decided to continue it on here...until about 5pm.

Amanda: Day 259. Happy Birthday Sherry!

From Amanda's 365 Project

It's my cousin Sherry's birthday! (She's the one on the left with the flowers.) We had a lovely girls dinner at the Cheesecake Factory.

Amanda: Day 258. Snuggle Buddies.

From Amanda's 365 Project

This is my mom's dog, Baby, and my dog Katy. My mom always says they like to snuggle when Katy comes to visit but she can never catch them. Tonight I had her occupy them and I snuck a pic. They tend to blend together so it's a little hard to distinguish them.

Amanda: Day 257. My new obsession.

From Amanda's 365 Project

Jalepeno Lemonade. I love and hate it at the same time. The first sip is so sweet, just like lemondade, so you want to take a big ol gulp. However, after you swallow, there's a burning sensation in your mouth. So you drink more. It's fabulous and horrible at the same time.

Amanda: Day 256. Rollover Pelicans.

From Amanda's 365 Project

Today is two years since Hurricane Ike made landfall. I had a burning in my heart so I drove down to Gilchrist today. I sat for a while at Rollover Pass and was lucky enough to catch these brown pelicans just hanging out. My how things have changed in two years.

Amanda: Day 255. Project Fabric.

From Amanda's 365 Project

I've had an itch to do two things. One: Make a satin pillowcase which is the top fabric. Two: Get some fabric for scarves. You see, I got into this head scarf wearing trend this summer and I need some of my own. So those are the other materials. Yay! Now I just have to make the pillowcase. :D

Amanda: Day 254. Go Stros Go!

From Amanda's 365 Project

I got to hang out with Brian and Shanna AND their two lovely girls today. We went to an Astros game today. It was an awesome game...until the 9th inning. We were tied and we had two errors which cost us runs, so we ended up losing, but had a great time! I guess since we've done this two years in a row now, it's a tradition and we have to keep going!

Amanda: Day 253. DAVE!

From Amanda's 365 Project

This is Brian and Shanna. Our old friend, Zach, is now in a band who opened for Dave Matthews! Talk about living the dream. So we went to The Woodlands to catch the concert, however, even though I called and confirmed we could bring cameras, they confiscated it at the gate. I was so stinking mad. But we had an awesome time and even got to hang out with Zach!

Amanda: Day 252. Ugly Buzzard.

From Amanda's 365 Project

Do you know what a buzzard looks like? I didn't until today. They are one ugly dude.

East Texas Canopy.

My dad has knee surgery yesterday and so I decided to drive up and spend his first post-surgery day with him. We sat out on his porch a lot and there were three hummingbirds that frequented the feeders. My goal for the day was to get the perfect shot of a humingbird while I was there. Do you know how hard it is to get a clear picture of a hummingbird? Those dude are FAST. This is as close as I got. Check out the brown blob by the feeder.

In Lufkin, there was a Walgreens and a CVS right across the road from each other, which isn't unusual. However, this was the first time I had seen this.
